Friday May 31

And so today ... we have three days left until the CA starts.

As a reminder, the CA will be June 6, 7 and 10 and 11th.

In any case, we studied a bit of the play and got a new worksheet of questions to work on.

Questions from Act III are 1, 4, 7 and 13

And I checked on questions that should have come in yesterday. Some still owe.

I also FINALLY posted the Exam Review PPT... it is on the right-hand side of the blog under "Helpful Exam links".

As we move forward I'll be adding other links that should help there as well.

2. How well does Bassiano do in the picking game for Portia?
3. In scene iv, we hear of Portia’s plan. In your own words, describe her plan.
4. What does Shylock focus on in act four, scene one?

5. And what does Portia Ask from Shylock?

Wednesday May 29

It was a trip day today.

I kinda found out about it when I walked into my class and checked out who was signed out by the Attendance lady at the school.

We did make the day useful, by showing updated marks to all present and some recommendations about what to do this summer:

1) Doing summer school - either to recover a credit or to get ahead
2) Getting a job
3) Getting your volunteer hours done
4) Getting a first aid certification of some sort.

Personally, I like StJA for it, but I don't think I'm really allowed to recommend businesses on this blog. In any case, I really pressed the point that everyone needs to do something - even just a little thing - to get along to finishing high school on time and with as much ease as possible.

Tuesday May 28

It was quiz day - Part 1 on Merchant of Venice. We did awesome.

After that we took a look at the exam outline and took some notes. I will set up a list of helpful exam links on the right-hand side of the blog shortly. One of those links will be the .pdf of the presentation we did today.

Right, after that ... we worked a bit more of the play and got to where Bassanio picks the right one in the selection of the caskets.

He's the Lead - er. ;)

Monday May 27

Today was a rather odd one, but it's something I've learned to anticipate over many years of teaching.

Tomorrow stuff is due. I took today to help my students get things ready to hand in tomorrow. I took up the homework and discussed a few ideas about the play we are doing and did last week. We also helped with other sections of the assignment due tomorrow too.

Some people are still owing Shakespereince and the Webquest for MOV and I'm hoping to have those in shortly.

I'm sorry to say that what I didn't think about was how to show marks to students and show the play Merchant of Venice at the same time. I do have updated marks. I will be better prepared to do three things at the same time tomorrow.

Friday May 24

Today was a weird one.

As this is my first year at this school, I was unaware that the event on the football field would be taking as many students away from my class as it did.

In my period 2 Grae Nine English class, the entire class was outside in the event.

I will expect everyone to do the online response to the article for homework.
